The Geography Of The Celtic World

Celtic World

Map showing the territory
occupied by Celts (or people
influenced by Celtic culture) from
the fifth century BC to the Roman conquest

Any attempt at defining the world of the ancient Celts depends upon three categories of evidence, all of which need to be used cautiously because they are incomplete and sometimes ambiguous. The texts of Classical commentators, archaeology and the early evidence of language all appear to combine to provide us with a picture of a Celtic culture or tradition which, by the third century BC, stretched from Ireland to Hungary and from Scotland to northern Italy.
